Cypress's SVTC Spurs Innovation with Delivery of 300-mm Wafers Using 65-nm Process Technology

Development Facility Offers Full Range of Advanced Lithography Services and Tools to Enable Turnkey Solutions on 300-mm Silicon

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Feb. 7, 2005— Silicon Valley Technology Center (SVTC), a division of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY), today announced the delivery of its first 300-mm wafers. The wafers were produced at the 65-nm technology node for third-party engineering groups using a newly installed advanced lithography and metrology module.

The new toolset enables development of prototype 200- and 300-mm wafers for novel silicon technologies and applications. Customers taking advantage of this new capability range from IC companies to semiconductor capital equipment and materials suppliers.

"Delivery of our first 300-mm silicon is a major milestone for SVTC and validates our model of offering customers a capital avoidance strategy for developing prototype silicon," said Bert Bruggeman, SVTC's managing director. "The successful integration and operation of our facility's new high numerical aperture 193-nm, 200- and 300-mm lithography module adds unprecedented depth to our value proposition by allowing customers to focus solely on technology innovation that can be rapidly transferred to a production fab."

Anchored by the ASML TWINSCAN(TM) XT:1250 scanner, the facility also houses Applied Materials Verity CD-SEM and the Archer AIM overlay metrology system from KLA-Tencor. This infrastructure, coupled with SVTC's broad technology partnerships enables the facility to provide customers with turnkey 90- and 65-nm solutions on 300-mm wafers.

SVTC customers have access to Cypress's expertise, established fab infrastructure and sub-90-nm processing capabilities. SVTC enables third party engineering groups to take products from proof-of-concept to manufacturing through a state-of-the-art toolset in a 16,000 square-foot clean room in Silicon Valley. Customers are also able to tap more than 20 years of process development expertise. SVTC offers best practices in fab process engineering, statistical process control, quality management, failure analysis, and design for manufacturing methodologies as part of its development toolbox.
